THE UTOPIAN ARCHITECTURE

He decidit crear bellesa per contrast.

Time ago I thought to make a post about one of my favorite architects: Le Corbusier. He was the responsible to build the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille, which I had the pleasure to visit three years ago.
Designed between 1943-1952, is considered a collective and autonomous building. It has capacity for 1600 people, in 337 housing of which there are 23 typological variations.
Inside the building there is an authentic business street located at 25 meters height, that  outside is a  sequence of layers of cement which make contrasting rhythm with the rest of the facade. The building also contains a restaurant, meeting room and in the terrace roof, gym, solarium, nursery, outdoors theatre and swimming pool. A utopian and brilliant project as a whole.
In his own words:
"I have decided to make beauty by contrast. I will find its complement and establish a play between crudity and finesse, between the dull and the intense, between precision and accident. I will make people think and reflect, this is the reason for the violent, clamorous, triumphant polychromy of the facades."
